Ingredients for easy tomato sauce:
- 1 can of chopped tomatoes
- 1 garlic clove
- Half of a medium size onion
- 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper
- Pinch of smoked paprika powder.
- Few basil leaves
- (optional) sugar and chili powder
How to cook this
Finely chop the onions and garlic and saute on low heat until soft. Add onions first and then garlic as garlic is bit more sensitive to heat. You want to avoid browning the garlic or onions so keep stirring them. When onions are starting to soften up, pour in the chopped tomatoes, add rest of the spices but leave basil for little later. Raise the heat to medium so the sauce will thicken a little with water evaporating. Keep stirring the sauce occasionally.
When the sauce has started to thicken, add basil leaves and turn heat to low and let it simmer for another couple minutes. Total time for the sauce shouldn’t exceed 15 minutes. It should be ready in 10-12 minutes.
For a sweeter sauce you may add about 1 teaspoon of sugar or for a pit of a kick, add a pinch hot chili powder.
Serve with your choice of tortellini pasta or just spaghetti or any other kind of pasta.
This sauce servers for 1 person.
